03 The Stakes

Freeze events don’t wait
for business hours.

A single freeze event can shut down a power plant for days. A failed heat trace circuit in January isn’t a maintenance issue — it’s a $2M outage, a NERC violation, or a safety incident. The companies that avoided those outcomes had one thing in common.

Risk 01 — Production Loss
A freeze event can halt production in hours.
When a critical water line or process pipe freezes, the cascade is rapid: pressure loss, process interruption, unplanned shutdown. In power generation, that means lost megawatts, penalty exposure, and emergency crews in sub-zero conditions.
Risk 02 — Compliance Failure
NERC EOP-012 violations carry real consequences.
Generating facilities in cold climates must demonstrate documented winterization programs under NERC EOP-012. Auditors want as-built drawings, test records, and inspection logs — not verbal assurances. Missing documentation is a violation, regardless of whether a freeze event occurred.
Risk 03 — Deferred Maintenance
Heat trace systems fail silently — until January.
A heat trace circuit can fail mid-summer and nobody notices. The first sign of failure is a frozen pipe in the coldest week of the year. Undetected faults, deteriorated insulation, and unchecked panel alarms are the industry’s most common — and most preventable — failure mode.

A first-order read on what a freeze season could cost — and what a documented program takes off the table.

Equipment at risk = units × value × 2% × exposure factor
Downtime = facility rate × 24 hr · Emergency = facility rate × 4 hr
Indirect = 15% of direct · Event range = direct – 1.5× direct
Event probability = climate × protection × 12% base
As-left = maintained program (protection factor 0.05)
Program cost = $250/unit · $25K minimum
Planning basis only · site values govern
The spread between as-found and as-left is decided in the field — circuit condition, insulation integrity, documentation. A walkdown scopes it. An audit proves it. Start with the walkdown

04 Services

One partner.
Full scope.

Every phase delivered in-house — from the initial audit to the final turnover package. No subcontractors, no handoffs, one point of accountability.

Design, supply, and installation of self-regulating and constant-wattage heat trace systems for freeze protection and process temperature maintenance. All cable types — including mineral insulated.

Service detail

Seasonal audits, inspections, circuit testing, and remediation — scoped in the fall, fixed before the cold comes.

Service detail

Hot and cold pipeline insulation for pipes, vessels, pumps, and equipment. Properly specified insulation is the first line of defense — and directly determines heat trace efficiency and circuit draw.

Service detail

Isometric drawings, panel schedules, heat-loss calculations, and as-built documentation. Every project includes a complete turnover package — IFA drawings, line lists, location maps, and completion certification.

Service detail

24/7 emergency response, scheduled outage support, and ongoing circuit maintenance. MI cable weld repair capability preserves system integrity without full cable replacement. All work documented.

Service detail

Power distribution, heat trace control panels, GFEP systems, motor controls, and generators. Self-performing electrical work keeps the project under one contract and one quality standard.

Field System

The audit,
instrumented.

Every circuit tested, photographed, and graded on a digital field platform we built ourselves — structured data in place of clipboards. Reports land days after the walkdown, not weeks.

And because the data is structured, this year’s audit compares to last year’s. Your system’s history compounds instead of starting over.

At one Connecticut power plant, the circuit failure rate fell from 26% to 10.9% across audit cycles — because each year’s findings compare to the last. How the audit works
